Why don't you just simply call them upgrades, have like you said, two of them for the better weapons and one for the more common weapons. Also you should make them be stat specific like have an upgrade on exp/hour or attack.
Those ones are okay, it's the little ones I was concerned about.
I was contemplating having 1 mod slot, and a handful of little gem sockets you could add stuff to. I wouldn't have called them gem sockets though, as it's too similar to other games, whilst also being strange in a futuristic game
Thanks for responding btw.

Hello Sdiddy73
Btw, I'm still doing that. Some items will be scalable, in that you can increase/decrease their equip level, so you can sell them to n00bs, or keep them useful to you as your own account levels up.
There would be a bound though. e.g. an item might only scale from level 10 to 30. The Unreal quality items will have scale limits which are huge though.
This issue is not quite related to what you're talking about though. I would like players to be able to modify the attributes of an item in some way, without changing its level.
Upgrade stars are simple, and they boost every attribute for each star bought. The problem is, they may be a little too simple, and it would probably be better if you had to choose specific attributes to upgrade. Not directly, but more along the lines of:
- Would you like to upgrade your item's offensive/defensive/other power?
And not let every aspect of the item be upgraded. People would have to choose. This *may* be something I can modify at a later date, but item mods, I'd rather get those designed asap.

Item quality levels (draft #1):
----------
Poor - junk, almost no benefit, just vendor trash really, plus minor quest items.
--
Common
Uncommon
Rare
--
Masterful
Legendary
Monstrous
--
Godlike
Unreal
----------
I quite like "unreal", and like "monstrous". "godlike" is one people will tend to expect too.
If you have any suggestions, let me know
The idea is to have one really bad quality level (poor), then a handful of normal, above average, then excellent quality levels.
It wouldn't be worthwhile to have too many quality levels which are awful - better to have more quality levels at the higher end of the spectrum instead.
The higher the quality, the more attributes you're likely to find on it, the more worth they have, the more difficult they are to acquire, etc. Everything you'd expect.
As to the total number of quality levels, it is totally arbitrary at this point. I think 9 is the upper limit. If we could whittle it down a little, that might even be beneficial. Let me know which of the words you like/dislike, and I'll be able to decide where the axe falls.
EDIT: I might be able to merge Poor with Common, but it'll depends on how I'm going to do quest items. We might be able to get away with it though.

Are these being able to be made with Points or Credits?

The minor enhancement sockets are probably more akin to "gems" in WoW. What I'm stuck on is precisely what the premise/terminology for them would be. I don't think we should opt for gems, or anything like that. I'm leaning more towards something generic, like special little badges to certify that the item has been enhanced in some way.
Can anyone else think of something better here? Whatever it is, there would probably be a page installed for applying them to the item, and whilst some might be available for Credits on the page itself, the rarer ones could be hidden in the World, dropped by raids, etc.
How about crystals? Sounds futuristic to me

TL;DR
But seriously, I will leave a reply here when I start feeling like it, just a heads up I guess. I was going to write a long reply, but meh, tired atm. Consider this a place holder of sorts.
Well I honestly don't know what to say, as you have covered everything it seems, and I agree with everything you have said.
You could probably remove Masterful from the quality as well as merge poor with common, just leaving common, I don't feel like there is a need for so many qualities to this. On a side note, I want an Unreal piece of gear with a f**king pa**ion, it just sounds epic.
I feel it is true that using stars is a bit dull. Not being able to choose which stat to upgrade does suck. Especially when the item doesn't have a certain stat, or that stat is so low even at 5 stars you barely get anything out of it. Being able to insert "Crystals" or maybe "Power Chips" that have certain stats would make more sense.
I'm all for the sockets, 1-3 "Master sockets"--"Primary Sockets" depending on quality, and then "crystals" for lack of a better name to put in them, which can be acquired from Raids, drops, quests, and the like. Adding a cost to actually putting the items into the sockets.
On top of this I would think maybe a Enchanting profession? Or it could be called Tampering or something I don't know, which would allow you to change stats, or add stats. Not meaning to add more to your agenda of course, this could be another thread.
I think I have covered much in this, even if I just reinstated everything that was already said. I might edit more in later I don't know
All in all I'm thrilled to have this implemented, keep up the fantastic work my good man.
